Stephen Starr to feed Carnegie Hall patrons

Philadelphia restaurateur Stephen Starr has added another spot to his growing Big Apple empire. He just inked a deal with Carnegie Hall to be the concert hall's exclusive caterer, starting on October 2 at the venue's opening night gala, where his hometown orchestra will be performing.

Restaurant Associates currently holds the contract.

The first phase of the partnership will relaunch Citi Café at Carnegie Hall. The restaurateur will also provide light fare and drinks during intermissions.

Stephen Starr Events, the catering division, also handles the food and beverage offerings at Caffe Storico at the New York Historical Society and Café Serai at the Rubin Museum of Art. Later this year, the company will take over at the New York Botanical Garden.

Mr. Starr also owns Buddakan and Morimoto in Manhattan. The restaurateur told Crain's in March that he would like to open an old-fashioned cabaret in the city as well as a vegetarian eatery.

"New York," he told Crain's, "is where the money is."
